• wash the aloe vera leaf well; • cut the leaf at the base and place it vertically in a container with water (about 2 fingers) and leave it for about 5 minutes (optional step used to remove most of the yellowish sap with laxative effect for some people) ; • cut the sides of the leaf (that part with thorns); • the leaf is cut into ~ 2 cm slices and left in a container with water for 30 minutes (step also necessary to remove that yellowish / latex sap). • the aloe vera slices are rinsed (if necessary) and then we can extract the pulp (aloe vera gel) by cutting the peel with a ceramic knife. • try to handle the aloe vera pulp as much as possible with non-metallic utensils. Also, direct and prolonged contact with air must be avoided to prevent oxidation.
⚠ Note: Commercially purchased Aloe Vera leaves will not have too much yellowish (latex) sap, so the steps to get rid of this sap can be shortened or omitted. The removal of this yellowish sap is done because some more sensitive people may have allergies or in internal use, it may have a laxative effect.
Next: mix the aloe vera pulp with the coconut butter: • in the first phase, only the aloe vera pulp is mixed with a blender and thus we obtain the so-called aloe vera gel. • we put the gel formed for 2-3 minutes in a glass container to let the foam form, so we will avoid those air bubbles in the cream. • add the coconut butter and mix with the aloe vera gel at high speed until a creamy composite is obtained. Depending on how you want to get the creamy cream, the amount of coconut butter can vary, the ideal proportion being 50% aloe gel and 50% coconut butter . • Optionally, you can add a few drops of essential oils, such as roses, lavender, tea tree, ...
The formed cream will be placed in containers and they will be kept closed with a lid, obligatorily in the fridge or freezer.
⚠ Note: being a 100% natural product, without emulsifiers, it is very important that immediately after mixing the two ingredients, the formed cream is put in the cold (in the refrigerator or freezer), to avoid the separation of the two ingredients. If the mixture is left too much in a hot environment, there is a risk of separation of the two ingredients.
Observations
Preservation and validity: • It is recommended to store in containers as small as possible, closed with a lid, mandatory cold in the refrigerator or even in the freezer. • If stored in a refrigerator, it is recommended to use the cream for a maximum of one month. In the freezer, the cream can be stored for up to 6 months, but once thawed, it is recommended to consume it in a maximum of 2 weeks. • It is also recommended to avoid prolonged contact with air and light as aloe vera gel oxidizes very easily if not processed. Delaying the oxidation process can be done by adding natural antioxidants such as natural vitamins A, C and E.
