Materials

- sieve (or gauze) to strain the bran

Preparation

  • Poultice with cabbage leaves and borscht bran - Preparation step 1We will use homemade sour borscht bran/borscht yeast (wheat and corn bran).
The borscht bran are well filtered by the excess water, with the help of a gauze or sieve.
If you have a gauze, they can be put on and used right in that piece of gauze to prevent them from spreading.
  • Poultice with cabbage leaves and borscht bran - Preparation step 2Cut 1-2 leaves from a fresh cabbage.
Cabbage leaves are lightly crushed by pressing with a wood twister.
It is important to get some juice out of the cabbage leaf / leaves.
  • Poultice with cabbage leaves and borscht bran - Preparation step 3We put the borscht bran on the cabbage leaf. If we have a gauze, we can put the husks in gauze and then on the cabbage leaf (so as not to spread). I chose to put the shoots directly on the cabbage leaf.
  • Poultice with cabbage leaves and borscht bran - Preparation step 4We stretch an elastic band (gauze, cloth) and place the cabbage leaf with borscht on it.
  • Poultice with cabbage leaves and borscht bran - Preparation step 5We position the elastic band with the cabbage leaf and borscht bran on the painful area. We bandage with the elastic band, so that the compress is applied well on the painful area (in my case, the wrist).
  • Poultice with cabbage leaves and borscht bran - Preparation step 6In the final step, I also put the food foil in the idea of avoiding the leakage of bran. The food foil is preferably not put directly on the skin because it could cause irritation ...

Observations

The order of placement of the ingredients on the painful site is as follows:
- borscht bran (as is or in a gauze so as not to spread),
- cabbage,
- elastic band or cloth
and in the end
- food foil to seal the area, so that borscht bran does not flow.

For example, for a sprain on the wrist, I put the borscht bran on the cabbage leaf, I prepared a piece of elastic bandage, I unwrapped it, I placed the cabbage leaf with bran on the elastic bandage, then I applied it completely on painful place, bandaging the elastic band.

⚠ If the area where you will apply the poultice is inflamed, red and you feel that it is burning, then cold poultices are preferred, otherwise warm poultices !
→ For cold poultices, we will practically cool the ingredients, put them in the freezer for a few minutes!
→ For warm poultices, lightly heat the eggs in a saucepan with a little water, then squeeze well.

Poultices on the vital organs and on the spine, are always put warm!

Poultices on the joints are placed as follows: on the joints with cold sensation are placed warm poultices, and on those with warm sensation (hot), put cold poultices.
⚠ If we are talking about warm poultices, be careful, they do not have to be hot!

Poultices with cabbage help to remove swelling and reduce pain.

Cabbage is used, which has thicker and greener leaves, because they are richer in juice. The leaves are washed well before use. When the leaf begins to change color, it is removed immediately.

Cabbage leaves are rich in vitamins and phytonutrients, such as anthocyanin and glutamine, both of which have anti-inflammatory properties.

Both the compresses and the poultices are applied externally, in the annoying area, in order to allow the "healing" elements (cabbage / bran) to be absorbed by the body.

Administration

The optimal time to apply the poultices is 2 - 4 hours, after which the ingredients are replaced with fresh / fresh ones.

Poultices can also be left during the night, but after a few hours, the ingredients lose their properties, and the area will heat up very much, risking irritation.

⚠ Be careful, if on the applied area, you feel more and more intense itching of the skin, it means that something is not right for you and that there is a risk of irritation. Irritations can also occur from the elastic band if it is not sterile or from the foil that touches the skin.

Leave breaks between applying poultices for at least 1-2 hours to breathe and restore skin tissue. Also, after applying the poultice, it is recommended to wash the area and apply a moisturizer!
