Servings: 20 servings
Amounts for 10 daily servings = 20 cubes, 2 cubes per day
Ingredients
Optional ingredients:
Materials
- - large bowl
- - small saucepan
- - whisk
- - spatula
- - kitchen scale with good accuracy
- - measuring cup
- - silicone mold with 20 large cups or multiple molds (each cup 40–50 ml)
- - food storage container with a lid
- - optional: hand blender
Preparation
- Pour about 250 ml of cold water into a bowl and gradually sprinkle the gelatin over the water, stirring as you go. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes to hydrate.
- Heat the remaining 200–250 ml of water separately. The water should be hot, but it should not be boiling.
- Pour the hot water over the rehydrated gelatin and stir until it is completely smooth.
- Add the turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper. Stir vigorously with a whisk or blend very briefly with an immersion blender.
- Let the mixture cool until it is lukewarm.
- Add the honey, lemon juice, and vitamin C. If you're using MSM, acerola, sea buckthorn, or rose hips, add them now as well.
- Add the lemon zest, orange zest, and vanilla, if using.
- Mix it all together very well again. The spices don't dissolve completely, so keep stirring as you fill the molds to ensure that the last few cubes don't end up with all the particles that have settled at the bottom.
- Divide the mixture into 20 roughly equal portions.
- Place the molds in the refrigerator for at least 4–6 hours, ideally overnight.
- Once they've set, remove the cubes and place them in a tightly sealed food container.
Storage 🧊
🔹 For safety and quality, it is recommended that the dish be consumed within 5–7 days of preparation.
🔹 If the recipe is consumed by 2 adults, at a rate of 2 cubes per day each, the 20 cubes will be consumed in about 5 days, so they can be stored in their entirety in the refrigerator.
🔹 If the recipe is consumed by a single adult, the 20 cubes will last for about 10 days. In this case, it is recommended that some of the cubes be frozen on the first day to avoid storing them in the refrigerator for too long.
🔹 Cubes intended for freezing should be stored in a tightly sealed container or freezer bag, preferably in daily portions. Transfer them to the refrigerator about 8–12 hours before consumption to allow for slow thawing.
🔹 It is not recommended to refreeze the cubes after thawing.
🔹 To best preserve vitamin C and flavor, keep the container tightly sealed, away from light and repeated temperature fluctuations.
🔹 Do not consume the cubes if they have an unusual odor, a fermented taste, obvious changes in color or texture, suspicious liquid, or signs of mold.
🔹 When handling the product, use clean hands and utensils, and avoid leaving the container at room temperature for long periods of time.
Administration
🔹 Recommended: 1 cube in the morning, after breakfast, and 1 cube after lunch or in the afternoon.
🔹 Avoid taking on an empty stomach. For people with acid reflux, gastritis, or a sensitive stomach, it is best to avoid taking it late in the evening or before bedtime.
🔹 Initially, to check for digestive tolerance, take 1 cube per day for 2–3 days, then increase to the full dose of 2 cubes per day.
🔹 If the product is well tolerated, the 2 cubes can be taken together, preferably after a meal or about 30–60 minutes before physical activity, light exercise, or physical therapy.
🔹 Taking it before physical activity may be an interesting option, as some studies have shown that the combination of gelatin and vitamin C, taken before exercise, has been associated with increased levels of certain markers of collagen synthesis. However, the product remains a dietary supplement, not a treatment for pain or joint conditions.
🔹 Recommended duration of a course: approximately 30 days, provided the supplement is well tolerated. For use lasting longer than 1–2 months—especially in individuals undergoing medical treatment or with chronic conditions—it is recommended to consult a doctor.
🔹 After a course of approximately 30 days, you may take a break of 2–4 weeks; the course can then be resumed if needed and if the product was well tolerated.
🔹 The treatment can be repeated periodically, depending on tolerance, the level of joint stress, and need. It is not necessary to strictly adhere to a fixed number of treatment courses per year.
🔹 During periods of more intense physical activity, recovery, stiffness, or increased joint stress, the treatment can be resumed after the recommended break.
🔹 Children and adolescents: This “forte” formula is not recommended as is. The recipe is designed for adults and contains high amounts of turmeric, ginger, pepper, and vitamin C.
🔹 For children, if a preparation containing gelatin and vitamin C is desired, a separate, simpler recipe without the “forte” spice blend is more appropriate, and administration should be determined in consultation with a doctor or pediatrician.
🔹 People taking daily medications should exercise caution, as ginger and especially pepper/piperine can affect digestive tolerance and interact with certain medications. In such cases, it is recommended to discuss the product with your doctor or pharmacist.
Observations
🔹 This is a concentrated formula for adults, not a gelatin-based dessert. The amounts of black pepper, ginger, and turmeric are intentionally high.
🔹 2 g of black pepper per day is roughly equivalent to a substantial culinary amount, but the piperine in pepper can alter the bioavailability not only of curcumin but also of certain medications. Therefore, people undergoing long-term medical treatment should not use the “forte” formula without first checking for compatibility.
🔹 Gelatin is not the same as hydrolyzed collagen peptides. However, it is derived from collagen and provides amino acids such as glycine and proline. The NOW product used as a reference recommends a standard serving size of 10 g; this formula uses 20 g/day. Supplements
🔹 MSM can be added optionally, but it is not required for the formula to be effective.
🔹 In cases of persistent joint pain, swelling, hot joints, stiffness, or significant nighttime pain, the cause should be medically investigated; these tablets are a dietary supplement and do not replace diagnosis or treatment.

🔹 Gelatin + vitamin C provide the amino acids and cofactor the body needs for normal collagen synthesis.
🔹 Turmeric + ginger + pepper + cinnamon make up the spicy part of the formula, focused primarily on providing antioxidant compounds with anti-inflammatory potential.
ℹ️ Interestingly, in a human study, taking gelatin enriched with vitamin C before a short period of exercise increased markers associated with collagen synthesis. However, the study was very small—involving only eight men—so the result should be viewed as promising, not as proof that gelatin cures a joint disease.
FAQ 💡❓
Why is the combination of gelatin and vitamin C more beneficial than gelatin alone?
➡️ Vitamin C is necessary for the reactions through which the body produces collagen. Gelatin provides the amino acids, and vitamin C plays a role in the synthesis process.
Why do we use gelatin instead of hydrolyzed collagen if the goal is to support the joints?
➡️ Gelatin is also derived from collagen, but it has the advantage of gelling, which allows us to make cubes. Hydrolyzed collagen dissolves easily, but it doesn’t form the same gel.
Does more black pepper automatically mean that turmeric works better?
➡️ No. Piperine can increase the bioavailability of curcumin, but a higher amount does not automatically mean a better effect and may increase digestive irritation or the risk of drug interactions.
Why are vitamin C and lemon added after the gelatin has cooled?
➡️ To avoid unnecessary exposure of vitamin C to high temperatures and to prevent the gelatin from sitting in a very acidic environment for too long.
Does it matter if these cubes are consumed before exercise?
➡️ There is preliminary research suggesting that gelatin with vitamin C taken before exercise has been associated with an increase in a marker of collagen synthesis. Exercise provides tissues with mechanical stimulation, not just nutrients.
Why is MSM optional if it’s so common in joint supplements?
➡️ Because the formula already has a functional foundation without MSM. It can complement the formula, but the evidence for its clinical benefit is more limited than the popularity ofcommercial products might suggest.
Is it normal for spices to settle slightly in the cubes?
➡️ Yes. Turmeric, pepper, ginger, and cinnamon do not dissolve completely in water. That is why the mixture must be homogenized just before and during pouring into the molds.
Why is Ceylon cinnamon recommended instead of Cassia cinnamon?
➡️ Ceylon cinnamon generally contains much less coumarin and is the better choice when consuming relatively large amounts of cinnamon daily.
Can the cubes be made smaller?
➡️ Yes. You can make 40 smaller cubes, in which case the daily serving becomes 4 cubes. The total daily amount of ingredients remains the same.
Why do we freeze part of it if the mixture contains lemon and honey?
➡️ Lemon and honeydo not turn the mixture into a preserved product. It contains a lot of water and is prepared at home, so prolonged refrigeration does not offer the same safety as an industrial product.
Does a very spicy taste mean the preparation is more effective?
➡️ No. The sensation of spiciness indicates the presence of compounds found in pepper and ginger, not the intensity of the effect on the joints.
